Edith House
This apartment building located in Alhambra, California features large voids subtracted from the upper level. This feature allows natural light, ventilation, and views of nature to penetrate deep into the upper level interior. The lower level is wrapped with vertical dark wood panels, while the upper level features smooth concrete stucco. The inversion of the color scheme between the upper and lower levels visually breaks the massing of the apartments, making its scale more relatable for a residential neighborhood.
